Votes for Women – chalkings on pavement

To advertise the suffragettes meeting last Saturday, the words ”Votes for Women” followed by an announcement of the meetings had been chalked upon the pavements in the town [Skegness].

One of these in a prominent position was altered to ”Ropes for Women”, which caused much amusement to passers-by. Mr Asquith would probably concurr.

Note: I gather Mr Asquith was a Liberal Candidate who vetoed the Vote for Women bill proposal.
