Council Declines Gift of Cricket Ground

Lord Scarbrough Pleased With Cricket Club’s Offer

When the Council declined to accept Lord Scarbrough’s offer of a gift of the Cricket Ground to the town on condition it was kept a permanent cricket and lawn tennis ground, the Committee of the Club approached his Lordship to give them the ground on the same conditions as he offered it to the town.

The Earl was delighted to know the Cricket Club was wanting to take it over and it to remain a permanent cricket ground and open space, as he did not wish to see the town lose it’s club or the ground.
