We’re all familiar with the story of the Europa crashing into Skegness Pier in 1919, but THIS old newspaper article reveals that parts of the pier were destroyed in a similar incident forty years previously – even before it was built!
Accident to Skegness Pier
On the night of the 19th November, Skegness Pier was run into by a large vessel, which remained bottom upwards on Saturday morning, and was presumably in the same condition when she came into contact with the pier.
The colliding vessel did some damage, part of the piles being knocked in and destroyed.
