Teachers' Home of Rest

Home of Rest

A new “Home of Rest” for lady teachers and members of adult classes connected with the Nottingham Sunday School Union was reported officially opened [hidepost]in the 28th July, 1893 edition of The Skegness Herald.
The article described the Rest Home as situated adjacent to Hiley’s Dining Rooms, overlooking the Pleasure Gardens and the Sea. Hiley’s dining rooms occupied the building which we know today as the National Westminster Bank at the junction of Lumley Road and Rutland Road. From what I can deduce, the Rest Home probably ran for around seventeen years, for the new St Peter’s College opened in the same building in 1910. (Picture coming shortly.)
