This old, very rare photograph of the seaside resort of Southsea, Hampshire was taken in 1877. It shows what appears to be hundreds of horses and riders lined up on the beach.
The original picture is stuck fast to the reverse of a page of original old Skegness photos, also taken in 1877, which I purchased some time ago.
I have exhibited the picture here in the hopes that it will be of use to people researching the history of Southsea. Unfortunately, I cannot offer the original picture as attempting to separate it from its hold would cause irreparable damage, but please email me if you would like a high resolution scan for your research.
