Curate Removes Winthorpe Church Graffiti

Winthorpe – The ancient church here had inscribed upon the centre panel of the gallery front this important sentence: ”Thou, God, seest me”.

This, it is supposed, was too much for the Curate – he has got rid of the writing, by the expedient of taking down the gallery, to which the parishioners consented, upon conditions that the materials be sold to defrey the expense, which has actually been done.
