Skegness Suncastle 79th Anniversary

Skegness took in hand a pioneer scheme as far as this country was concerned, with the building of the Sun Castle on Grand Parade 79 years ago, in May 1932.

Electric fittings were installed which made it possible to flood the Solarium with ultra-violet rays similar in every way to the sun’s rays, so that, by continued use of this establishment, it be possible to acquire a sun-burn even during weather ther or at night time.

This original, unique idea opened up the possibility of turning Skegness into a winter resort, thereby extending the holiday season.
