Skegness Colonel at Jap Surrender

New Delhi, 26th November, 1945:— Lt.-Col. F J. Goulson, of Skegness, Lincs., who served with a Gold Coast Regiment of the 82nd (West African) Division in the Burma campaign, attended the formal Japanese surrender ceremony at Rangoon last month when the Japanese General Kimura, and his officers, handed over their swords to the Commander of the 12th Army (Lieut.-General Sir Montague Stopford) .

Col. Goulson was with a party of twelve West Africans and seven British officers and N.C.O.s, who were flown to Rangoon from their location in Burma to attend this ceremony.

Col. Goulson is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Goulson, of Arcadia Crescent, Skegness, his father being the Foreshore Manager to the Skegness Council.

  1. I have done a bit of research into the Goulson family, F.J. Goulson (Frank Job), was awarded the DSO for his actions against the Japanese during the Burma campaign, he later went on to be awarded an OBE and became Acting British Comander of the Royal Nigerian Army and head of security during a UN peacekeeping mission in the Congo during the early 1960’s.
