Chester Brothers Roman Bank Shop

Older residents of Skegness will remember a fine old general stores on Roman Bank — Chester Bros. It sold a huge array of provisions — from flagons of cider to postcards, from chocolate to bread.

This picture was probably taken in the early 1950s.

It features Maurice Chester left) and his elder brother, Syd, who was chairman of Skegness Urban District Council in 1940 and 1950. He was also a Methodist preacher and involved with the Boys’ Brigade and the Silver Band.

The photo belongs to Mrs Heather Cook of St John Street, Wainfleet, whose husband, Raymond, is a nephew of the Chesters.
