The event, organised by local man, Adam Clark, raised a bumper £7,500 for the Round Table’s Children’s Wish Charity.

Revellers joined in the fun by dressing up in 70s fancy dress and ‘freaking out’ on the 70s dance floor which was specially shipped in for the occasion.

The delicious Thai buffet, provided by Kanya Clark, was very popular with the revellers.

Tackling a blight on our communities

Posted by Angela Gooch on October 31, 2007

FLY tipping is completely unacceptable and is a blight on our communities, that’s the strong message from East Lindsey District Council following two successful prosecutions at Skegness’ Magistrates Court for fly tipping offences.

Appearing before Magistrates on October 26, 2007, Darren Hartley of Skegness pleaded guilty to three offences of illegally disposing of waste at Warth Lane and High Street in Skegness.  Hartley was ordered to pay £75 for each offence and £796.92 costs to the District Council.  In total Hartley has been ordered to pay £1,021.92.

Barbara Watling from Little Steeping, pleaded guilty to dumping a bag of rubbish at Monksthorpe Lane in Candlesby and was fined a total of £633.78 for the offence; including £100 for the offence; a £15 victim surcharge and £518.78.

Portfolio Holder for Amenities, Councillor Dick Edginton, said that Magistrates are taking a hard a line against fly tippers: “We are spending around £25,000 a year clearing up other people’s mess and clearly this money could be put to a much better use.  These prosecutions should be a deterrent to anyone considering disposing of their waste illegally and the Council takes all offences very seriously,” he said.

East Lindsey residents are some of the best recyclers in the country

Posted by Angela Gooch on October 31, 2007

PERFORMANCE figures from East Lindsey District Council show that the district’s residents are some of the greenest in the country when it comes to household waste recycling.

Over 38% of the household waste currently being collected in the district is composted. Between April and September this year 12,560 tonnes of green waste were collected, the equivalent to the weight of 2392 adult male elephants! This ranks East Lindsey as one of the top performing districts in the country for green waste collection.

Residents are also leading the way when it comes to total household waste being recycled, with the rate currently over 60%.  This figure is a combination of green waste and dry recyclables and demonstrates how seriously residents are taking recycling.

The District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Amenities, Councillor Dick Edginton, said the recycling figures are outstanding: “We are recycling more than we have ever done before and this is something for us all to be proud of:  As a result of the high recycling rate we are sending far less waste to landfill sites than we ever have before.  This is great for the environment and also ensures the district won’t be penalised financially for disposing of too much waste in landfill,” he explained.

District Council invests money to help flood hit communities

Posted by Angela Gooch on October 30, 2007

THREE Land Drainage Officers have been appointed by East Lindsey District Council to investigate incidents of flooding in people’s homes and to provide a lead in the community for resolving local flood problems.

Covering the whole of the district, the Drainage Team will initially deal with issues relating to the floods this summer, when over 700 homes were severely damaged.  The Team will pull together the resources of other agencies to provide realistic and practical solutions to flood defences.

“Life for many people is very challenging,” said the Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson.  “I have visited families affected by the flooding and seen the devastation first hand.  It is important the Council continues to help people return normality to their lives. We are already aware of a number of drainage issues following a well-attended public meeting in Louth.  It’s important the Council champions the good work currently being undertaken by the Environment Agency, Anglian Water and the Drainage Boards and helps provide leadership and direction to make sure we are solving problems in a sensible way.

“The District Council still has funds available to support those affected by the flooding.  Anyone who hasn’t already come forward should contact us urgently,” she explained.

Chief Executive of the Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board, Colin Hinchcliffe, said: “The Drainage Board supports this initiative by the Council and it will supplement works we already have ongoing in East Lindsey.  It’s important that we all work together in a partnership to minimise the impact of flooding,” he said.

The Environment Agency is currently dealing with flooding caused by the main rivers in the centrally affected areas of Louth, Horncastle and Wainfleet.

If you require any advice or support following the flooding; or to speak to the Drainage Team, contact East Lindsey District Council on 08446 601111.

The future of East Lindsey lies in your hands

Posted by Angela Gooch on October 30, 2007

THE future of East Lindsey is in your hands and now is the time to have your say! That’s the message from East Lindsey District Council as the Authority invites the community to contribute to the District’s Local Development Framework (LDF).

The LDF – as it has become known – is a collection of planning policy documents that will take over from the old Local Plan.  Once adopted the LDF will set the pattern for development within East Lindsey until 2026.

The first of these documents, the Core Strategy, will lay down the direction that all new development in the District must follow.  “With the help of residents, we can be assured of a future that is economically prosperous, with an improved quality of life for everyone, and all without harming our valued but very vulnerable environment”, says the Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Built Environment, Councillor Brian Burnett. “Residents should use this period of consultation to give their vision for future development within East Lindsey,” he explained.

Having already consulted widely with residents in East Lindsey, the Council has drawn up a list of key issues that affect our communities, our environment and our economy.  Now the Council wants to know if you agree with these issues and also seeks your views on a series of options that have been suggested to deal with them.

The Council has published a Core Strategy – Issues and Options Paper, which will be available for comment between November 7 and December 19.

The papers and consultation document have been posted on the Council’s website at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk  and can be completed online.

If you don’t have internet access you can inspect the document at any Council area office or library throughout the District.

The closing date for comments is Wednesday 19th December.

Poor food hygiene leads to prosecution

Posted by Angela Gooch on October 30, 2007

POOR food hygiene has led to the prosecution of Ibrahim Cinalp the proprietor of the Original Chicken Express on Aswell Street in Louth following an inspection by East Lindsey District Council.

Appearing at Skegness Magistrates Court, Cinalp pleased guilty to four food hygiene offences and was fined £3000 for having ham eight days past its use by date; £500 for having dirty cloths tied around the taps on the sinks, posing a risk of food contamination; £500 for having dirty containers in contact with food and £500 for failing to identify food safety risks and for not putting controls in place to protect food from contamination.  He was also order ordered to pay £550 costs.

The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health and Well-being, Councillor Sandra Harrison, said this should go as a warning to those who flout the food hygiene regulations: “The Council adopt a firm approach to food premises that pose a risk to the safety of the consumer, we will continue to diligently inspect all food premises in the district and take enforcement action where it is deemed appropriate.   It is important that we now work with Mr Cinalp to help him improve his business and hopefully we can recognise any efforts made by the business to improve through the ‘scores on doors’ Food Star Rating system we have in place,” she explained.

Partnership working will take Skegness into the 21st Century

Posted by Angela Gooch on October 30, 2007

PARTNERSHIP working will give Skegness a bright future according to East Lindsey District Council and Skegness Town Council   The Councils will work closely with Lincolnshire County Council and importantly the local community, to take forward an exciting opportunity to enhance further development in the town.

Potential developers will be given the opportunity to bring millions of pounds of private sector investment into the seaside resort, with the main focus being on the town’s southern foreshore.

Developers are being asked to submit plans that will take Skegness into the 21st century and which match the demand for high quality facilities and leisure activities.

Portfolio Holder for Coastal Regeneration, Councillor Neil Cooper, said that partnership working is important to ensure the best possible future for Skegness: “Skegness is one of this country’s best known and best loved seaside resorts. It’s important that we move with the times and secure a prosperous and ambitious future for the town.  At this stage of the redevelopment process we are asking developers to tell us what they would like to build and what vision they have for the Southern Foreshore. We are completely open to suggestions and ideas to ensure we attract the widest possible interest in the project,” he explained.

The Leader of the District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson said that any development will have to be modern and forward thinking to ensure Skegness remains one of the Country’s top tourist destinations.

Skegness Town Clerk, Tony Cumberworth, supported these comments: “Working together in partnership we can bring this exciting plan to fruition, broadening the tourist experience and most importantly creating jobs for local people. The town looks forward to supporting this programme of vision to give Skegness a sustainable and exciting future.”

In late 2008, in close consultation with the Town Council and other interested stakeholders, the Council will choose its ‘preferred developers’.
